In September 2006, the Auckland Mayoral Forum passed resolutions to initiate a process for strengthening governance in Auckland. The Strengthening Auckland’s Regional Governance process was conducted in two phases, phase one from September to December 2006 and phase two from March to July 2007.
The final report (22 June 2007) outlines a proposed model for strengthening Auckland governance. The key components of the model are:
A number of additional recommendations relating to 3 Waters, Transport, Regional Facilities, Economic Development, Shared Services, Tourism and Major Events were also included.
The final report (22 June 2007), together with Council resolutions and advice from government departments on various elements of the proposal, was forwarded to Cabinet in July 2007.
